We conclude our look at the college football’s penultimate weekend with the MWC (it only took me 12 weeks to figure out that putting up WAC/MWC posts while they were still sleeping was a dumb idea). TCU has completed its march to the BCS, with enough ground over Boise State to know they have the [...] The WAC’s big showdown came on Friday night, but Saturday wasn’t without it’s surprises too. The league now just needs one more upset to get another team into the bowl picture, while the middle three or four teams in the league are proving to be more even than once thought. Another eventful weekend in C-USA, as we now have the league championship game set, while at least one team saw their bowl hopes go up in smoke and another stumbled across the finish line, lucky that the league has a lot of bowl ties. The last full week of the season came by with a bit of a whimper for the Sun Belt. The Louisianas both needed upsets to get up to 7-5 and into better bowl position, but both came up short and will almost certainly call their seasons over at this point. Middle Tennessee continues to be [...] The MAC had an eventful weekend, although it actually all ended by Friday. We knew Central Michigan was on to the conference final, but Ohio has joined them by ending Temple’s impressive win streak at 9 and taking the East division. The rest of the league did wrap up play last week as well, with [...] Overall, it was a good, but quiet, weekend for the WAC. Boise survived a mild upset scare Friday night, and while they didn’t get a lot of style points, right now catching TCU isn’t going to hinge on whether they win by 10 or 20 over Louisiana Tech. Fresno beat up on Idaho pretty badly, [...] With fairly light schedules consisting of mostly conference games, I’m going to consolidate the wrapups for a couple weeks at least. The main reason is that starting tomorrow, I’m launching Mid-Season Report Cards for every single non-BCS conference teams, which should be fun. We also have a very busy week of night games, so there’s [...] Week 5 was mostly quiet across the Belt, with only three games and five teams in action. Arkansas State put on the best show of the weekend, pushing Iowa to the brink on their turf, falling 24-21 in the Sun Belt’s best game this year against ranked opposition. Florida Atlantic couldn’t get off the mark, [...] For maybe the first time since this thing started, I actually have all 5 conference wrapups done and it’s only Tuesday. Awesome. UTEP’s shocking defeat of Houston blew the Cougars right out of the polls, the national picture, and any chance of getting into the BCS money. Out of conference was a 50-50 split, with Tulane upsetting Army and SMU falling to TCU after keeping things [...] |
