Busy week for the Belt, with four games Saturday and a national game Tuesday night (which is technically week 10, but who’s counting). The highlight of the weekend should be the Shula Bowl, as FIU continues trying to make up ground toward bowl eligibility.
2:00 PM- Louisiana at Ohio: Louisiana takes it’s struggling operation out of conference [...]
The MAC is really the only league that doesn’t have an extra-light schedule this week. The MAC has tomorrow and one more normal Saturday, then November comes, and the MAC has games on 12 days over 4 gameweeks. It’s crazy- you’ll see. But to accommodate all that, many teams don’t have byes until that [...]
This was supposed to be the first of several monster weeks in C-USA, with Houston headed to SMU, ECU – UCF next week, and UCF-Houston after that. Then Houston had to go and lose to Rice, taking themselves off the unbeaten (in league play) list and taking the edge off this week a little bit. Instead, [...]
Strange week at Fringe HQ, so most of what was planned for this week will hopefully appear next week. We didn’t get much chance to cover the firing of Todd Dodge over at North Texas, which surprises me only because it’s come mid-season. Mike Canales, the offensive coordinator, will take over interim duties.
1:00 PM, CSS- Florida [...]
Just four games in the Mountain West, just like the WAC, as it’s all league play today.
2:00 PM, The Mtn- UNLV at Colorado State: Two teams looking to turn their seasons around after bad starts, with moments of hope. Neither has given reason to be very confident that they’ll win this one. Line: Colorado State by [...]
The WAC is into full-blown league play, which means only four games this weekend.
4:00 PM- Idaho at Louisiana Tech: La Tech showed it’s first signs of life last week when they knocked off Utah State, while Idaho comes in off a bye week, beating Western Michigan handily two weeks ago. Line: Idaho by 1. The Vandals [...]
Last preview of the day, we’ll bring you the western guys tomorrow morning before kickoff. C-USA has one game out of the way, so six on tap for Saturday.
12:00 PM, CBS College- North Carolina State at East Carolina: NC State makes its second trip to C-USA country, which is a bit odd for a BCS team. ECU’s defense has been dreadful the last three games, but they found a way to win against Southern Miss and would welcome a track meet with the Wolfpack. Line: NC State by 7.5. I really want to pick ECU here, but I’ve been burned badly the last two times they played BCS teams, and just don’t quite think they can keep it within 7. NC State pulls away late, 49-35.
12:00 PM, CSS- Southern Miss at Memphis: This could get ugly Read Post
We’re all up in the MAC this week, but seriously, they have a ridiculous amount of teams and, thus, games.
12:00 PM- Miami at Central Michigan: Central Michigan hasn’t beaten anyone with a decent record yet, but Miami would count at this point. Otherwise, I don’t have much a feel for this game. Line: Central Michigan by 12.5. Well, this one seems easy. I think it could go either way, but I don’t think CMU can be counted on to blow anybody out just yet. I think Miami steals this one, 21-18.
1:00 PM- Bowling Green at Temple: Two teams seemingly heading in different directions, although Temple needs to get its offense on track soon if they’re going to uphold their title of East favorites. Read Post
So, writing mid-season report cards took longer than planned (as usual), so previews will be short and fast this week. Chances are you won’t notice.
12:00 PM, ESPNU- Arkansas State at Indiana: Indiana is a very bad Big 10 team that has played a deplorable schedule- Western Kentucky and Akron, for two. A-State isn’t great, but there’s at least a chance of an upset here. Line: Indiana by 10. I’ll take Arkansas State and the 10, and say they come up just a little short, 27-24.
3:30 PM- Middle Tennessee State at Georgia Tech: MTSU certainly didn’t spring to life when Dwight Dasher returned, getting hammered by Troy last week. Read Post
UCF is back on ESPN for the second straight Wednesday night (8 PM Eastern), this time on the road against Marshall. At the moment, the two teams appear headed in different directions- UCF dismantled UAB last week, while it was Marshall who got blown out last time they took the field, October 2 at Southern Miss.
