This was going to be a longer post until I accidentally deleted it. The short version of the first half of that post- several teams blew out lesser competition, many more got blown out, but credit to Miami, Utah State, and Arkansas State for putting up a fight on the way down. We’ll cover all the games in the conference wrapups this week. Now, the good football games:
Troy 30, Bowling Green 27: These two teams were in lockstep the whole way- quarters ended at 14-7, 17-17, and 27-27. Troy intercepted Bowling Green’s final drive to set up the game winning field goal with 4 seconds left on the clock.
TCU 30, Oregon State 21: Oregon State came to play, tying the game at 21 in the latter stages of the third quarter, but TCU responded and took a 28-21 lead into the fourth, and the Beavers never scored again.
BYU 23, Washington 17: Another big opening weekend win for the Cougars, but it took a fourth quarter comeback to get it done. Trailing 17-13 after three, the Cougars got a field goal and a touchdown in the 4th to pull ahead, then needed a pair of fourth down stops to keep Washington from the comeback.
Fresno State 28, Cincinnati 14: After 20 minutes of play, Fresno State was staring up at a 14-0 deficit. After that, the team came to life and dominated the rest of the game, posting 28 unanswered points to send the Bearcats packing.
