Poll Hangover: Fringe Teams Feel the Love

The preseason AP poll dropped on Saturday, and the non-BCS universe was well represented, especially in the also-receiving votes world.  And while the AP poll has nothing to do with the BCS, I have no doubt that the people who fill polls out for the coaches keep an eye on the AP as well, so as not to look as foolish.

Here are the non-BCS teams who made the rankings:

3.  Boise State, 1336 points (155 points behind #1 Alabama, one first place vote)

6. TCU, 1160 points

it is a long way down from here- nobody else cracked the official top 25, but for a lot of these programs just making the bottom of the sheet is noteworthy, so we’re noting it here.

28. Utah, 80 points

30. Houston, 66 points

34.BYU, 19 points

38. Navy, 12 points

T-43. Temple, Central Michigan, Middle Tennessee State, 2 points

T-46. SMU, UCF, 1 point.

I do think there’s a few snubs here and a few teams ranked too low.  Temple deserves a little more credit than they’re getting, and I think Nevada (season previewed next!) belongs on the list somewhere.  Northern Illinois, too, is as worthy of a vote as SMU and UCF are.  But all these teams will have the opportunity to get the attention as things get rolling.

We’re back at it with more season previews today, and we’re running full steam ahead to kickoff next week (next week!).  Stick around, it’ll be fun for everyone.
