The MAC is speeding right along with their month of mid-week games, with 3 games in the last two nights that I haven’t gone over. Today on the fringe, I’ll be cranking out our weekend previews, but for the four biggest games of the day, have a look at the Pub post, since I hit them over there.
Central Michigan 56, Toledo 28- about what I would have expected given the way Toledo has staggered through this late part of the season. CMU advances to 8-2 and just has to survive Northern Illinois to get to the title game.
Bowling Green 35, Miami 14- The Falcons are back to 5-5 on the year, 4-2 in the league, and only have Toledo & Akron left to play. I still feel good about my prediction that they’ll win out and may find a bowl.
Northern Illinois 26, Ball State 20- NIU stays alive in their chase of Eastern Michigan.
All in all, nothing has changed in the MAC division races- it’s primarily down to CMU/NIU and Temple/Ohio. The NIU/Ohio game next Saturday is huge.
The MAC has a game tonight and only one game tomorrow, so here’s your weekend preview:
Tonight: Temple at Akron, 8:30, ESPNU- The winning streaks we’ve seen around the MAC have been impressive this year, and Temple is the poster child for them. Akron doesn’t seem likely to interrupt that streak, but they did just take Kent State down a notch last weekend. Temple can’t be caught looking ahead or counting wins before they’re on the board.
Saturday: Western Michigan at Eastern Michigan, 1 PM: Western has been up and down this year, but trending down lately, while EMU is still searching for its first win of the year. This could be a close game for all the wrong reasons. A win means that Western could still get bowl eligible against Ball State in their final game, but a 6-6 Broncos team may not be very appealing to the bowls.
