A big day for teams near the top of the non-BCS universe. TCU pounded BYU 38-7, Boise State blew out Hawaii on the road, Utah escaped Air Force in overtime, and Houston had its way with SMU.
TCU is getting some love nationally as one of the best teams, period, and could move up in the polls today despite everybody else in the top 8 winning. At the very least, they’ll improve in the AP Poll with Miami losing ahead of them. The fact that the game was on Versus won’t help matters, however.
Ball State finally won a game, beating equally winless Eastern Michigan by two points. Miami, Western Kentucky, and Rice all lost.
Idaho’s win streak was broken by Nevada, who put up 70 points in a big win for the Wolfpack. The fight for second in the WAC is going to be a good one. Nevada now takes the mantle of “big WAC game that should scare Boise,” when they head up to Boise on Thanksgiving weekend.
We’ll get back to a slightly more normal week on the Fringe, with some conference wrapups, a dose of report cards, and a decent mid-week CUSA game to look at as well. Back with a couple league wrapups a little later.
